Our University of Leeds Strategy 2020-2030: Universal Values, Global Change is now live.

To mark the launch of our new strategy, Professor Simone Buitendijk looks at our vision and the themes of community, culture and impact in her Inside Track – A values-driven strategy for the next 10 years.

How we’ve developed our strategy

Since July 2018, work has been underway to begin the development of our vision and strategy for the next decade. That work has included defining the internal and external context in which we operate, so that we can build robust plans and create headroom for future development.

From this work we developed the thought piece, Global and National Trends in Higher education: Challenges and opportunities for the University of Leeds, 2020-2025. This in-depth document summarises the work carried out by our Strategy Development Group, colleagues across campus and external subject experts, who looked at the challenges and opportunities the higher education sector is likely to face in the coming years.

Throughout June and July 2019, our senior leadership team (University Executive Group members) met almost 900 colleagues in five sessions across campus. They talked about the work we’ve done so far, where we are now and where we want to be in the future. A live recording from our fifth and final session and a copy of the presentation, with speaker notes, is available to download.

Our senior team also met with students and postgraduates and, together with your feedback from the summer engagement events, developed the draft strategy, Making a Global Impact

In January 2020, we launched a consultation on the draft strategy to gather the views of staff, students and postgraduates through workshops and an online survey. The main findings were summarised and shared with colleagues.

In February 2021 we launched our new University of Leeds Strategy 2020-2030: Universal Values, Global Change
