Power cut update
A review is under way to explore the causes of the power cut on Friday.
The power cut affected most of the campus; and was in two phases: the first lasted about quarter of an hour, but this was followed by a longer loss of power, starting just before 4 pm. The electricity supply was restored for some buildings at about 9 pm, but it was not until after 2 am on Saturday morning that the whole campus had power.
The power cut is attributable to two factors: problems with a cable supplying the campus compounded by problems with the back-up generator. The latter are still being explored.
The review group is also considering the lessons to be learnt for the future, with particular reference to health and safety, business continuity (especially for academic activities), the management of critical incidents, and communications with staff. A further report will be posted in due course.
