Banner 8 Upgrade – Thank you

The corporate Student Administration system Banner was upgraded to version 8 over the May Day Bank holiday and went live 4th May 2010.

Incorporating the latest software releases and ensuring the University remains on full SunGardHE support and supporting technologies.

The Banner 8 project went live on the 4th May after an implementation phase that went very smoothly and where no contingency time was used thanks to a lot of detailed planning, everyone's hard work and commitment.

The core project team was made up of: UNIX team, Student Systems Administration team and members of the SIMS team. The wider project team included colleagues from around the University who were involved in User Acceptance Testing. The Senior Project Manager John Ramsden led both the Banner 8 Review project and the Banner 8 Upgrade project and reported to the Project Steering Group, chaired by John Lillywhite.

The upgrade project included the purchase and implementation of new Banner hardware and the upgrade to the Oracle database, both significant changes. The Banner 8 project took the opportunity to roll out a new configuration of the address checking software and renew the ODBC driver, which will be used across the University.

Message from Roger Gair, University Secretary:

"I was very pleased to hear that the upgrade to Banner 8 went so well, after much preparation and testing by a large group of colleagues I know, and I would be grateful if you could convey to the whole team, including those people involved in user testing, my thanks and that of my colleagues on VCEG for the hard work and effort put in. I appreciate that the necessity to move the go-live date to 4 May caused people additional work but the successful upgrade now ensures that other projects, like UPMC, can go ahead as planned.
Thanks very much to everyone.
With best wishes,

Roger"
Members of the UNIX, SIMS, SSA & RSA teams worked during the May Day bank holiday to complete their tasks, others were on call for which I am very grateful.

Kind Regards,
John Ramsden Bsc(Hons)
