Senior appointments

Following interviews earlier this month, Professor Andrew Thompson has been appointed as Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research, in succession to Professor Margaret Atack, for a period of five years.

Andrew Thompson is Professor of Commonwealth and Imperial History, and is currently Dean of the Faculty of Arts.

Dennis Hopper, currently Director of Residential and Commercial Services, has been appointed to a new post of Director of Facilities Management from 8 April 2009. This appointment is made in anticipation of the retirement of Robert Sladdin, Director of Estates, next summer.

As well as maintaining responsibility for the work of Residential and Commercial Services, the Director of Facilities Management will be responsible, from 1 August 2010, for all the services currently reporting to the Director of Estates. The Director of Sports and Physical Activity will also report to the new Director of Facilities Management, from August 2009. In the meantime, Dennis will be working closely with senior colleagues to review potential organisational structures and to agree an appropriate timescale for the transfer of responsibilities.
