Message from the Chair of Council: update on the recruitment of the next Vice-Chancellor and President

Email sent to all colleagues from Alastair Da Costa, Chair of Council, on 9 February 2024

Dear all,

I am writing further to our recent email outlining the process for the recruitment of our next Vice-Chancellor and President to update you on our progress.

As you know the University Council appointed the executive search firm, Perrett Laver, to support this crucially important process. An important first stage of this was their undertaking of a wide consultation exercise across our community and with some of our key external stakeholders. Perrett Laver undertook this during January and we are pleased to report that there was a very high level of engagement from staff and students across the University. We want to thank you all for your participation in this part of the process and for the richness of your contributions over the 40 consultation meetings and also through the Perrett Laver email address.

This first phase having now concluded, the Council committee overseeing the process is using the feedback to help inform the job description and candidate profile for our new Vice-Chancellor and President. We will then transition in mid-February to the formal search and advertising of the role nationally and internationally and continue in our aim of appointing an outstanding candidate to lead our great University in June 2024, with a view to their taking up the position as soon as possible thereafter.

As previously indicated, we will write to you with an update as the process progresses. In the meantime, further information, including the timeline and next steps, can be found here.

With thanks and best wishes,

Alastair Da Costa
