New Directors of Student Experience and Support and Student Curriculum and Operations

Chris Warrington has been appointed as the University’s Director of Student Experience and Support and Wayne Keating is joining us as Director of Student Curriculum and Operations.

Chris and Wayne will join Louise Banahene (Director of Student Success and Educational Engagement) and Megan Kime (Director of Digital Education Service) in forming the new leadership team for the Student Education and Experience portfolio.

Chris is currently Head of Student Support in the Student Education Service and has overseen the development of support to include new areas such as the Student Information Service and the Harassment and Misconduct team, including the implementation of Report & Support. Nationally Chris is Vice-Chair at AMOSSHE (The Student Services Organisation).

In his new role, Chris will be responsible for the leadership, direct management and successful delivery of our student support functions and enhancing and developing our student experience. Chris will continue to work in close partnership with key service providers across Professional Services and the Faculties/Schools to ensure close alignment and delivery of coherent and consistent user focused services to deliver an excellent student experience.

Chris said: “I am really pleased to have been appointed to the role of Director of Student Experience and Support. The focus on enabling a positive student experience and easy access to support is so important and I’m looking forward to working collaboratively across services, faculties and in partnership with LUU to further enhance our approach for students.”

Wayne joins us as Director of Student Curriculum and Operations from the University of York, where he is currently Director of Faculty Operations in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. He has previously held senior leadership roles at Sheffield Hallam University and the University of Manchester and comes to us with a wealth of leadership and student education experience.

As Director of Student Curriculum and Operations, Wayne will be responsible for championing institutional changes across student operations by working with academic colleagues and other professional services in streamlining and harmonising student lifecycle processes, raising the quality and improving the consistency of our service delivery to students.

Wayne said: “I’m truly delighted to be joining the University of Leeds and a team that is integral to a quality student experience. I look forward to working with staff and students across the University and hearing how our services can deliver this quality for them.”

Louise Banahene is currently Director of Educational Engagement and will formally take up the role of Director of Student Success and Educational Engagement in the new year. 

Louise Banahene will work alongside colleagues and the wider community to enrich the learning experience of our students. This includes development and implementation of strategies to meet institutional KPI’s and regulatory returns for outcomes including access, continuation, degree awards and graduate outcomes. Nationally Louise leads work and groups on postgraduate diversity and enhancing belonging amongst student communities.

Louise said “I’m excited to be leading teams to enhance our approach to growth, learning and development enabling our students to meet their goals. I’m looking forward to working with our student and staff communities to build on existing good practice.”

Megan Kime was appointed to the role of Director of the Digital Education Service in July 2023. Megan has had a career that has spanned both academia and professional services, in Philosophy at the University of Sheffield and the IDEA Centre here at Leeds.

Megan has and will continue to play a key role in the development and growth of the Digital Education Service and our Online Education strategies.

Rachel Brealey, Chief Operating Officer said: “Chris, Wayne and Louise and Megan will form the new leadership team for the Student Education and Experience portfolio. Overseeing this portfolio will be a new Deputy Chief Operating Officer (Student Education and Experience) (DCOO), a role for which we are currently recruiting.

“I look forward to working closely with Chris, Wayne, Megan, Louise and the new DCOO in developing and enhancing existing collaborative working to drive forwards the portfolio of student education and experience services. The wealth of experience of these colleagues from both within and outside the institution will be invaluable in our ambitions for the student experience.”

Chris and Louise will formally take up their new roles on 1 January 2024 and Wayne on 5 March 2024.
