Key new communication and engagement roles in IT
The engagement team in IT is expanding in November as we welcome Ann-Marie Hartland as the new Director of Engagement (IT) and Ellen Carter as the new Head of Engagement (IT).
The IT Service continues to evolve how it engages with the University and how it makes itself an exciting and innovative place to work, with the renewed ambition of putting engagement at the heart of what the service does. As part of that, from 1 November we are welcoming Ann-Marie Hartland as the new Director of Engagement (IT) and Ellen Carter as the new Head of Engagement (IT). Working closely with our IT Executive Leadership, Service Operational Leadership Team and our partners and stakeholders across the University, we hope to drive better communication and engagement. While Ann-Marie will oversee the whole team, with a focus particularly on customers, Ellen will be concentrating on internal engagement within IT, and bringing to life our Employee Engagement Action Plan.
Ann-Marie Hartland, Director of Engagement (IT)
Ann-Marie has worked in higher education for over two decades, largely in department and faculty roles but also taking the lead on cross-institutional projects, including the delivery of the digital strategy and creation of the transformation programme at the University of Bath. Her focus has consistently revolved around enhancing stakeholder experiences and ensuring that strategic objectives are met.
Common threads running through Ann-Marie’s career have been her commitment to providing opportunities for individuals to flourish and grow; her customer- focus, ensuring the needs of diverse users are understood and accommodated; and her collaborative approach, working together towards shared objectives.
Ann-Marie commented “I’m very excited to be taking up the role of Director of Engagement (IT). From the moment I applied, through to attending the Digital Universities Conference and meeting many of the IT staff during the interview process, I've been really impressed by the shared commitment to transformation and the importance of people in that journey, so it’s great to be joining you”.
Ellen Carter, Head of Engagement (IT)
Over the last 15 years Ellen has worked mainly within legal and financial services focussed on improving customer and colleague experiences. By identifying, analysing and understanding the needs of customers and colleagues she has been able to influence the roadmaps and outcomes of key transformational projects including the first to market mortgage payment holidays solution during the pandemic.
Ellen commented “Whilst it is important to me to achieve combined objectives and outcomes, how they are achieved is equally important and I am committed to making sure people have the right environment, support and development to be able to shine.
"I’m super excited to be joining as Head of Engagement (IT). From my experience with the team during my recruitment process, the passion and commitment to putting people at the heart of the transformational journey IT are on has shone through and I can’t wait to become a part of that with you all.”
