Now in their twentieth year, Leeds Sports Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of athletes, of all ages and levels, coaches, administrators and volunteers across the city of Leeds.

We’re proud that the list of nominees and winners includes some of our fantastic staff and students.

Huge congratulations to our Women’s Rugby Union team, who scooped the award for Student Sport Champion of the Year. We were well represented in this category, with two of the four finalists being from the University. Leeds University Fencing Club narrowly missed out on the prize but were highly commended.

Additionally, swimmer Zara Mullooly and triathlete Jess Fullagar were both highly commended for “Disability Sportswoman of the Year”. Basketball player Finn Tonner was also highly commended for “Disability Sportsman of the Year” and Leeds Bradford MCCU were highly commended for the “Performance Team/Club of the Year” award.

This success is a testament to the exceptional contribution made by our staff and students to sport in the city.

Giving back to the city of Leeds community

This year, the University was delighted to sponsor the Inspirational Community Champion award.

Suzanne Glavin, Head of Sport at the University, said: “It’s so great to be involved and support the local community. We are proud to play a key role not only in the local University community, but the community that is the city of Leeds.”

University staff attended the event to support the nominees and winners, including Director of Campus Innovation and Development, Ann Allen and Chief Financial Officer, Jane Madeley.

Also in attendance were colleagues from the Leeds Sport partnership, which consists of both Leeds University Union and the Sport & Physical Activity department at the University.

It was a perfect opportunity to celebrate some of the amazing people involved in sports in Leeds – from elite athletes to community heroes. Congratulations to all nominees and winners!
