Employee Survey | Golden opportunity to have your say

Ann Allen, Director of Campus Innovation and Development, reveals how the current employee engagement survey offers an ideal opportunity to help shape the way ahead for the Facilities Directorate.

The employee engagement survey could not have come at a better time for the Facilities Directorate, and we’re encouraging everyone to get on board with it.

We’ve just published our first-ever cross-service business plan – Our Way Ahead. So much great work goes on in the Facilities Directorate, but working together as ‘one FD’ – across our services – puts us in a much better position to support faculties and services, and therefore students and staff. This is all aimed at ensuring we can contribute fully to the success of the University strategy.

As we work together to regroup teams in line with the plan to enhance their effectiveness, I want to understand what everyone in the FD thinks is working well and what they’re less happy about. As we make changes guided by the plan that will affect all of us, this survey is a golden opportunity for people to have their say at a time when the changes we’re making are in process but not yet completed.

In line with the University, our plan is values-driven and has people and collaboration at its heart. That is why alongside using the employee engagement survey to understand what our colleagues think, we’ve also embarked on a series of roadshows to reach every team in the FD to ask them about the plan. And we’ve used these sessions to talk through the importance of completing the employee engagement survey too.

Core to our success as a directorate is how we develop our people and continue to create a culture that makes this a great place to work. I’m passionate about giving people a say, so we’re building a Staff Voice group as part of the People and Culture strand of the business plan, and we’re putting a lot of time and energy into promoting the survey. The other side of this, of course, is understanding what staff across the University think and feel so that we can act accordingly, so I’m hoping there will be a strong response rate across all employees so that our plans for campus reflect all your thoughts.

Have your say

Open until 20 March, the employee engagement survey is your opportunity to have your say – to tell us what’s working for you and what isn’t.

It takes an average of 15 minutes to complete and your responses will inform our efforts to make working at the University more enjoyable and fulfilling.
