Dr Colin Asher

Colleagues will be sorry to learn of the death, on 24 December 2022, of Dr Colin Asher, former Senior Lecturer in the School of Education.

A graduate of the University (BA and PhD), Colin gained his PGCE from University of Liverpool. He taught in secondary schools in south of England (with Professor Peter Gosden - former Chair of the School of Education), and at Beckfoot Oakbank School in Oakworth, where he was Head of Languages, before joining School of Education as Lecturer in 1973. He took charge of the Secondary PGCE in the early 1990s and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1996. Colin retired in 1999 after twenty-six years’ service to the University.

The funeral service will be held at 12.20pm on Tuesday 7 February 2023 at Stonefall Crematorium, Wetherby Road, Harrogate, HG3 1DE, and afterwards at The Travellers Rest, Crimple Lane, Follifoot, Harrogate, HG3 1DF. Arrangements have been made to fly the flag on the Parkinson Building at half-mast on the day of the funeral in Colin’s memory.
