Festive message from the Vice-Chancellor

Email sent to all staff from Professor Simone Buitendijk, Vice-Chancellor, on Monday 19 December.

Dear colleague,

As we approach the end of 2022, I want to thank you for everything that you do to help create a place where all students and staff matter, belong and can thrive. I am proud of the clear vision of our purpose and of the value we bring as a University. But it’s only through the dedication and hard work of our diverse community of staff, students, alumni and partners that we can positively shape our world.

I am particularly happy we worked together this year to define our new values: compassion, collaboration, inclusivity and integrity. We can see them being embodied by colleagues and students across the University every day. I hope you are as proud as I am to be a part of our diverse community which works so hard to advance knowledge, transform lives and shape a better future for our communities, our region and the world.

We could not achieve any of this without the talent and commitment of our staff. Whether you are staying in Leeds over the winter break, or travelling to visit friends and loved ones, I do hope you have some time to rest and to reflect on all the things that you have achieved this year. In my latest blog post, I’ve been looking back on 2022 and thinking about how having faith in life, and in our individual and collective strength, can be a helpful guiding principle.

Finally, I would like to especially thank those of you who will be working during the break to support our students and keep our University running and to wish everyone all the very best during the winter period.

Watch Simone’s festive message.

With thanks and very best festive wishes,

Professor Simone Buitendijk
Vice-Chancellor
