QS Academic Reputation survey 2022

The annual survey is looking for potential respondents.

A group of postgraduate researchers gather in a courtyard on campus.

The University is contacted annually by QS with a request to supply a list of possible respondents for the QS Academic Reputation Survey.

This survey, based on respected colleagues’ opinions of the University, has now gained additional importance because of our second institutional KPI: “Sustaining a strong academic reputation” and carries a 40% weighting in the QS World University Rankings.

We’re asking colleagues to identify potential respondents for the survey, sending their details using this template to Tilly Kirk (T.P.Kirk@leeds.ac.uk) in Strategy and Planning, before Tuesday 13 December. Please note, it is very important that you do not contact them directly: the University must seek the explicit consent of our nominated contacts before we can share their details with QS.

You can find more information about the survey and its methodology on the QS website

We aim to submit as many academic contacts as we are permitted.

Some important points to bear in mind:

  • the survey does not weight the seniority of respondents
  • nor does it weight the renown of respondents’ institutions
  • but it does significantly weight international responses (85%)

The survey asks respondents to select universities they regard as excellent, so your nominations could include:

  • individuals and partners colleagues have worked or interacted with in recent years
  • recent PhD graduates
  • staff members who have taken up new posts elsewhere

QS has set a significantly earlier deadline this year to submit potential respondents. We would therefore welcome nominations as soon as possible and before the deadline of 13 December, so we can begin contacting for consent earlier.

Please remember – proposed contacts should not receive any additional correspondence regarding the QS survey. The process is strictly monitored to reduce bias or coaching and the survey must not be mentioned in any other communications with respondents.

If you have any questions about submissions for the Academic Reputation Survey, please contact Beth Francis (B.Francis@leeds.ac.uk) in the Strategy, Planning and Performance team.
