Celebrating UK Disability History Month
UK Disability History Month (UKDHM) takes place from Wednesday 16 November until Friday 16 December.
The Parkinson Building, lit up in purple for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities
This year’s theme is Disability, Health and Wellbeing, which aims to highlight the importance of rights secured by disabled people.
It is a month to celebrate people with disabilities and increase everyone’s awareness of disability issues.
The University’s Disability Services is hosting a series of events for staff and students, including a stand-up comedy by Disability Coordinator, Carly Miller, alongside sessions that will help participants understand different disabilities and how to provide appropriate support.
Events include a Q&A session with Disability Services’ lead, Simon Morris, a guide to assistive technology, an introduction to supporting students with Cystic Fibrosis and Autism Explained.
The University will also be marking UK Disability History Month by lighting up the Parkinson Building for International Day of Persons with Disabilities on Saturday 3 December.
