Emeritus Professor Roger Hartley

Colleagues will be sorry to learn of the death, on Sunday 30 October 2022, of Emeritus Professor Roger Hartley, former Director of the Computer Based Learning Unit in the School of Education.

Roger came to Leeds in 1967 as a Lecturer in the School of Education. The Computer Based Learning Unit was established in 1969 and he was appointed its Director in 1971, being promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1972 and to a Chair (Computers and Education) in 1992. He enjoyed a long and distinguished career at the University, with wide external recognition for his scholarship and admiration for his teaching and administrative drive within the CBLU.  Roger retired in October 1997 after thirty years’ service, at which time the title and status of Emeritus Professor was bestowed upon him.

The funeral service will be held at 2.45pm on Friday 18 November 2022 at Oakwood Church, Springwood Road, Roundhay, Leeds LS8 2QA, on which day the flag on the Parkinson Building will be flown at half-mast in his memory.
