Emeritus Professor Denis Greig

Colleagues will be sorry to learn of the death, on Monday 5 September 2022, of Emeritus Professor Denis Greig, former Professor of Physics.

Denis had an extremely distinguished career in many aspects of ultra-low temperature physics following on from building a helium liquefier as part of his PhD studies at the University of Aberdeen. After a period in the National Research Council of Canada, he was appointed to a lectureship at Leeds in 1960, subsequently being promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1970, Reader in 1984 and Professor of Physics in 1988. He retired in 1997 after 37 years’ service to the University.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday 29 September 2022 at 12.30pm, at Telford Crematorium, Woodhouse Lane, Redhill, Telford, TF2 9NJ, on which day the flag on the Parkinson Building will be flown at half-mast in Denis’s memory.
