Outstanding contribution to student experience
Three academics at the University have been recognised for their outstanding contribution to higher education with National Teaching Fellowships (NTFs). Professor Bee Bond, from the Language Centre, and Professor Karen Burland, from the School of Music, have both been awarded NTFs for their work at Leeds. Dr Nick Cartwright, from the School of Law, has also been awarded an NTF through a nomination from his previous institution, the University of Northampton.
Pioneering projects honoured
Discover how developing a community of trusted collaborators to enable world-changing research has seen pioneering projects recognised through our new Research Culture and Engaged for Impact Awards scheme. This week, we’re focusing on the inspiring winners of the ‘Collegiate and Supportive Environment’ and ‘Building Partnerships and Networks’ accolades.

Campus Live | Showcase your talents!
Would you like to showcase your talents on campus this autumn? We’re looking to develop an exciting programme of events for Campus Live, shining a light on our University community. All creative ideas are welcome! Reasonable expenses can be claimed for staging an event or installation, with grants of up to £500 available for students, societies and recent graduates (2020-2022). Contact the Campus Live team for further information. The deadline for internal applications is Monday 5 September.
Laidlaw Library closure
Ongoing repairs mean the Laidlaw Library will close completely from Monday 15 to Friday 19 August. Visit the Library website for further information.
Postponed | Vernon Road works
The planned closure of Vernon Road until Friday 26 August, to allow for repair works, has been postponed until further notice.

Do you like the way the University communicates with you? Tell us what you think. We’re holding online focus groups, exploring how we share information with colleagues. Sessions run by an independent agency are being held in early September. You can have your say in a constructive, but frank fashion. Register your interest online or contact the Internal Communications and Engagement team for further information.

IT Exec Team open meeting | Read the Q&A and watch the recording
A summary of the IT Exec Team open meeting questions and answers session is now available. Several areas were covered, ranging from department plans to specific queries about hardware, software, Research IT and ongoing projects. You can also watch a recording of the meeting, which was held on Thursday 28 July. You might be asked for your University login to access this.
Request | Class Teams for teaching modules
Teaching colleagues can request Class Teams for their modules from Friday 12 August. These automatically draw student data from Banner, but you will need to submit a Teams request to IT, even if you had one for the same module last year.

Sign up | Student Success Forums
Join the Student Success Forums mailing list, hosted by the Student Success at Leeds team, to receive your invite to the next online event, focusing on access and transition support for minoritised and under-represented groups. Taking place online from 10am to 12 noon on Wednesday 14 September, this interactive event will provide opportunities to discuss the schemes that open up the University to students from different backgrounds and how we support under-represented groups through contextual admissions.

Apply | Aurora leadership development programme
Submit your application for the 2022/23 Aurora programme by Monday 22 August. Aurora is a women-only leadership development scheme, designed and facilitated by Advance HE for colleagues at or above lecturer level, or grade seven for technicians and those in professional services. Delegates will explore several leadership themes and skills through a mix of sessions involving guest speakers, mentoring, self-directed study and more. Colleagues can either apply themselves or be nominated by their faculty or service.

Book | University art prize exhibition
Sign up to attend a free preview event to celebrate the 2022 Friends of University Art and Music (FUAM) Prize and Exhibition, which rewards the artistic excellence of students completing BA studies at Leeds this year. Work by the four finalists will be on display at the special launch event, which takes place in The Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery from 6-8pm on Tuesday 16 August.
Register | We Move – Race Equality and Migrants’ Rights Summit
Register to attend the We Move – Race Equality and Migrants’ Rights Summit, hosted by the University from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 September. Organised by the Runnymede Trust, the event will create a space for those working for migrants’ rights and racial justice – including academics, students and the general public – to come together and develop approaches to building a Britain in which we all belong. Ticket charges apply.
Book | Gryphons Go Kids Camps
Not sure how to entertain the kids during the summer holidays? Book them onto Sport & Physical Activity’s Gryphons Go Kids Camp for either single or multiple days. Children can swim, climb and explore the outdoors, as well as develop their physical skills and make use of our superb educational facilities. Camps are hosted at The Edge until Friday 26 August.
