REF 2021 results – a thank you

A thank you from the University Vice-Chancellor

Dear colleagues,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved in our REF 2021 submission for all their hard work. This has been a huge collaborative effort, with academic, academic-related and professional services staff from across the University contributing to the world-changing research that is reflected in the submission, and which embodies the overarching elements of our University strategy –culture, community and impact.

In particular, I would like to thank all colleagues who brought together the 28 Unit of Assessment (UoA) submissions, which showcased the wonderful breadth and depth of our research. With 90% of our submitted research judged to be ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’, we can all be truly proud of what has been achieved together.

As I said in my Inside Track article, finding time to pause and celebrate achievement is crucial. Stepping back, we can see the bigger picture, look afresh at the fruits of our hard work and recognise how far we have come.

I thank everyone who was involved in this monumental effort.

Best wishes,
Professor Simone Buitendijk
Vice-Chancellor
