Leeds Conversations event | Introducing the Horizons Institute

Email from Professor Stuart Taberner and Samantha Aspinall, sent to all staff on Wednesday 30 March 2022.

Dear colleagues,

We warmly invite you to join members from across our research community to hear about the new Horizons Institute.

The Horizons Institute

Global challenges require global solutions. But the solutions we seek are multi-dimensional – they require inclusive, blue-sky collaborations if we’re to stand any chance of ‘cracking the code’.

The Horizons Institute is an incubator for new ideas – it exists to support and foster truly innovative, early-stage collaborations between researchers and external stakeholders. Our purpose is to provide an arena for academics to come together and develop their skills and networks, building diverse teams designed to cut across traditional disciplinary boundaries.

Join us to hear more about the institute, where we’re boldly going and how you can get involved through one or more of our four foundational pillars.

What to expect

During the online event, you will:

  • meet the new Horizons Institute team and hear about the four pillars that underpin our activities – our headline theme, challenge themes, the Global Academy and partnerships for societal impact and innovation
  • hear from our challenge theme leads, who will be sharing the innovative approaches to their specific area, as part of our challenge themes pillar
  • find out how you can get involved in the Horizons Institute; and
  • have the opportunity to direct questions to the Horizons team and guest speakers.

Book your place

We look forward to seeing you,

Professor Stuart Taberner, Director of the Horizons Institute
Samantha Aspinall, Head of Interdisciplinary Research
