A message from the Vice-Chancellor about world events

Email from Vice-Chancellor, Professor Simone Buitendijk, to all staff on Tuesday 1 March 2022.

Dear colleagues,

As a University we are deeply concerned and saddened by the recent developments in Ukraine, and we stand in sympathy with all of those affected by the ongoing conflict.

Our University values define our behaviour, our actions and our culture, and embody who we are as a community. During this time of heightened world tension, it is more important than ever that we have these values at the forefront of our minds, and I know you will continue to treat each other with the compassion, kindness and respect that is the hallmark of our culture at Leeds.

I recognise that the situation currently unfolding in Ukraine will be particularly distressing for members of our community who are directly affected, including our students, staff and alumni. Our thoughts remain with them, and we hope for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

When world events affect members of our community, we know how important it is to have the right support available, and we will continue to work collaboratively to make sure that students or staff affected by the crisis will be supported:

Support for staff

Support for students

We will continue to provide updates as matters develop.

With best wishes,

Professor Simone Buitendijk
Vice-Chancellor, University of Leeds
