Christmas closure 2021

Colleagues are reminded about the University closure dates during the festive period.

Three days’ leave has been added to the University’s Christmas closure again this year (pro-rata for part-time colleagues), in recognition of another challenging 12 months.

The University will be closed from Monday 20 December 2021 until Monday 3 January 2022 inclusive. This includes a fourth additional closed day granted due to the extra bank holiday for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Extra bank holiday

The UK Government announced an extra bank holiday to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022, meaning the May Bank Holiday weekend will be moved from Monday 30 May to Thursday 2 June, with an additional bank holiday on Friday 3 June.

In order to accommodate this change to the statutory bank holidays and to retain the University’s pre-planned closure days, a decision was made to move the closure day from Tuesday 31 May 2022 to Monday 20 December 2021.

Campus and professional services colleagues

As was the case last year, there will be campus and professional services colleagues who will work at times during the Christmas period to keep our campus safe and secure and to support those students who remain. They, like all colleagues, need and deserve regular breaks and we will make sure that those who do need to work during the Christmas break ultimately get the same leave entitlement as everyone else.
