Dr Alan Burns

Colleagues will be very sorry to learn of the death, on 14 July, of Dr Alan Burns, Associate Professor in the School of Chemical and Process Engineering.

Although Alan formally joined the University in 2014, he had been associated with the school since 2009 in a visitor capacity.

Alan was truly loved and respected by all his colleagues and postgraduate research students for his caring nature, deep understanding of his subject area and genuine willingness to help anyone who was struggling with any aspect of computational fluid dynamics.

He was a great scholar and the school, and more widely across the University, will not be the same with him gone. He will be remembered for his selfless and caring attitude and never turning away anyone who was in need of help. The School of Chemical and Process Engineering, as well as colleagues across the University and beyond, will truly miss him.

The funeral service will be held at St Cuthbert’s Church, Preston, at 11.30am on Wednesday 18 August, followed by the burial at 1pm at Preston Cemetery. The flag on the Parkinson Building will be flown at half-mast on the same day in his memory.
