Emeritus Professor Brian Sleeman, FRSE

Colleagues will be sorry to learn of the death, on Monday 19 July 2021, of Emeritus Professor Brian Sleeman, former Professor of Applied Mathematics.

He obtained a first-class BSc in Mathematics from Battersea College of Advanced Technology in 1963, his PhD in Mathematics from the University of London in 1966, and was awarded a DSc degree in Mathematics at the University of Dundee in 1975.

Most of Brian’s professional life was spent at the University of Dundee, where he started as Assistant Lecture in 1963, moving quickly through the ranks to become Professor of Applied Analysis in 1978 and, in 1993, Ivory Professor of Mathematics.  

Brian came to Leeds in 1995 as Professor of Applied Mathematics, retiring in 2004, at which time the status of Emeritus Professor was bestowed upon him.

The funeral service will he held on Friday 30 July in Dundee, on which day the flag on the Parkinson Building will be flown at half-mast in his memory.
