Dr Frank Drake

Colleagues will be sorry to learn of the death, on 16 May 2021, of Dr Frank Drake, former Senior Lecturer in the Department of Pure Mathematics.

After national service and a PhD in modal logic, Frank was appointed as Lecturer in 1962, being promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1978. He was Head of Department between 1978 and 1981, and he retired as Senior Fellow in 2000, after thirty-eight years’ service to the University.

In 1977 Frank was invited to become the first Honorary Secretary of the newly-formed British Logic Colloquium, and he took on this responsibility with huge energy and efficiency. He remained, throughout his life, an internationally respected figure of British Logic, and he was a lifelong mainstay of the Leeds Logic Group.

The funeral service will be held 17 June 2021 on which day the flag on the Parkinson Building will be flown at half-mast in his memory.
