Dr Barbara Douglas

Colleagues will be sorry to learn of the death, on Thursday 4 March 2021, of Dr Barbara Douglas, former Warden of Tetley Hall, aged 91 years.

Dr Douglas was employed by the University from 1965 until her early retirement in 1983. After graduating at the University of London with a PhD in Botany, she spent five years at the then University College of Rhodesia and Nyasaland, before joining the University in 1965 as the Warden of Tetley Hall. She was also an Honorary Research Fellow in the then Department of Botany from 1967 to 1986.

Former students and staff may remember ‘Dr. D.’ with great fondness, and her ability to make anyone comfortable and at ease. Very kind and with a generous heart, Barbara enjoyed a long and active retirement.

The private funeral service will be held at 3.00pm on Thursday 25 March 2021 on which day the flag on the Parkinson Building will be flown at half-mast in her memory.
