Apply now for the University of Leeds Teaching Awards 2021

University of Leeds Teaching Awards 2021. January 2021

Applications are now invited for our University of Leeds Teaching Awards 2021. Open to any colleague at Leeds involved in teaching or supporting the student learning experience, the awards offer wide recognition of outstanding work, as well as a cash prize to support professional development and scholarship.

With three categories, the scheme is intended to be relevant to colleagues at different career stages and with opportunities to be recognised for individual or team-based activities.

Up to three winners in each of the categories below will also receive an award certificate together with an invitation to a celebratory event:

  • Early Career University of Leeds Teaching Award – for colleagues with up to five years’ experience of teaching or supporting learning in higher education (each winner receives £2,000)
  • Sustained Excellence University of Leeds Teaching Award – for colleagues with more than five years’ experience (each winner receives £2,000)
  • Collaborative Excellence University of Leeds Teaching Award – for teams (each team receives £500 per contributor up to a maximum of £4,000).

Winners of the Sustained Excellence and Collaborative categories will also be provided with support and guidance to submit for the National Teaching Fellowship and Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence schemes respectively.

Great opportunity

Professor Peter Jimack, Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Student Education, said: “The staff and students at Leeds are committed to enabling an excellent student education experience.

“Our staff who teach and support learning are at the heart of this endeavour, working in partnership with our students to provide an inspiring, challenging and supportive environment, which enables them to achieve their ambitions.

“The University of Leeds Teaching Awards provide a great opportunity to recognise staff who exemplify excellence in student education and, this year, a chance to recognise the excellent work and innovation involved in sustaining high-quality learning and teaching in challenging circumstances. I look forward to celebrating with our first cohort of winners later this year.”

First launched in January 2020, the awards were postponed due to covid-19.

Supported by OD&PL, the awards – alongside the fellowship opportunities provided by Leeds Institute for Teaching Excellence (LITE) – replace the University Student Education Fellowship (USEF) scheme.

Closing date for applications is 12 noon on Friday 12 March. See the awards webpage for further information, including details of how to apply, or email OD&PL if you have any questions.
