Professor Hugo Christenson

Colleagues will be sorry to learn of the death, on 7 December 2020, of Emeritus Professor Hugo Christenson, formerly of the School of Physics and Astronomy.

Hugo studied chemistry at Stockholm University, graduating in 1977. He moved to the University of Missouri-Rolla to obtain a Master of Science in 1980, studying the molecular interactions in non-ionic amphiphiles.

He subsequently moved to the Department of Applied Mathematics at the Australian National University before moving to Leeds in 2001.

He became interested in the fundament nature of solids and the liquid state in highly confined geometries and, in particular, the problems associated with crystallisation in confinement.

Professor Christenson retired in May 2020, at which time the title and status of Emeritus Professor was conferred upon him.
