Senior leadership announcement

Another new senior leadership appointment has been announced.

Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Student Education, Professor Peter Jimack

Senior leadership announcement. November 2020

Professor Tom Ward last week stepped down as Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Student Education with immediate effect. Arrangements have begun to make an appointment to the role as soon as possible through an open (international) recruitment process.

In the meantime, the University Council has approved the appointment – with immediate effect – of Professor Peter Jimack as Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Student Education until the recruitment process is concluded.

Professor Jimack will lead on our overall education strategy, ensuring the University attracts, excites and retains high-quality students from a wide range of backgrounds.

His brief includes implementing innovative measures to ensure that students benefit from an outstanding education and excellent all-round experience, widening participation, promoting teaching excellence and innovation, and further boosting the employability of our students.

Professor Jimack was Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering (and a member of the University Executive Group) for nine years to 2019, and was a pro-dean for three years before that.

He has considerable experience of providing effective and strategic academic leadership at the highest levels within the University, across a range of issues.

His appointment follows several other recent senior leadership changes, which saw Professor Neil Morris announced as Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Digital Transformation; Deputy Vice-Chancellor: International, Professor Hai-Sui Yu, also taking on the broader role of Deputy Vice-Chancellor; and Professor Nick Plant appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research and Innovation.
