Christmas break 2020

The following email was sent to all colleagues, from the Vice-Chancellor and Director of HR, on Thursday 15 October.

Dear colleagues,

To thank you for your continued commitment to the University throughout the exceptional and challenging year of 2020, we have decided to extend the University closure period over Christmas 2020 and New Year. The University will be closed to normal business activity from Monday 21 December and resume on Monday 4 January 2021.

The additional closure period (Monday 21 to Wednesday 23 December) will be on top of your usual annual leave entitlement and will be treated the same as other closed days, so applied pro rata if you are part time or work in shifts.

We are mindful that some essential University activity will need to continue throughout the closure period this year, just as it does every year. Even so, the additional leave entitlement will apply to everyone and we are working through the details of how this will work for those of you in this group. Our aim is to make sure that our entire staff community has the opportunity to take a proper break away from work, even if the timing of this break may vary for some colleagues. More information about this will follow in the next two weeks.

With our best wishes and thanks on behalf of the whole University Executive Group,

Simone Buitendijk, Vice-Chancellor

Francesca Fowler, Director of Human Resources

15 December 2020 update: If you are part time or work in shifts this will be applied pro rata and you will see any adjustment to your annual leave quota appear on your HR Self Service record in January.
