New senior roles and appointments have been announced to support the University's strategic ambitions.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Digital Transformation
Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Digital Transformation, Professor Neil Morris
To provide academic leadership to support the strategic ambition for Leeds to become a global leader in the digital transformation of education and research, the University Council has agreed to recruit a Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Digital Transformation. The appointment of this new DVC will be made through an open (international) recruitment process.
Given the need for pace in this area, the Council has endorsed the appointment from 1 October 2020 of Professor Neil Morris, the current Dean of Digital Education, to act as Interim DVC: Digital Transformation until the recruitment process is concluded.
Deputising for the Vice-Chancellor
Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Hai-Sui Yu
Endorsed by the University Council, and with the agreement of the other DVCs, the Vice-Chancellor has asked Professor Hai-Sui Yu, currently Deputy Vice-Chancellor: International, to take on a broader role on her behalf, with the title ‘Deputy Vice-Chancellor’ (without a suffix).
In his new role, Professor Yu will serve as a ‘standing deputy’ for the Vice-Chancellor; provide oversight and coordination of the University’s academic strategy and its planning and delivery; and continue to lead on international strategy.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research and Innovation
Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research and Innovation, Professor Nick Plant
Professor Nick Plant has been appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research and Innovation.
Professor Plant, who has held the role in an interim capacity since May, will continue to lead on the development of our research and innovation strategy, creating a research culture and environment that delivers high-quality research and impact for the region and beyond.
His brief includes promoting partnerships in a number of key sectors, accelerating collaboration across a wide range of academic disciplines and driving recruitment of world-leading academics.Posted in: University news
