Covid-19 – What to do if you test positive or need to self-isolate
New guidance has been issued on how we will support colleagues who develop covid-19 symptoms, test positive or are required to self-isolate.
Find out how we’re supporting NHS Test and Trace

While we’re ensuring all of our environments and activities comply with the Government’s covid-secure workplace regulations, we appreciate many colleagues will be impacted by coronavirus in some way. This may be as a result of developing symptoms, a family member/close contact developing symptoms, being required to self-isolate or receiving a positive test.
We recognise that all of these circumstances may create concern and worry, so the new guidance – part of our dedicated coronavirus website – is designed to answer a range of important questions you might have, including:
- What to do if you experience covid-19 symptoms
- What to do if you receive a positive test result
- What to do if you receive a negative test result
- What to do if you’re advised by NHS Test and Trace to self-isolate
- How a period of self-isolation or sickness absence will be recorded; and
- Whether you need to inform colleagues you’re self-isolating.

We have increased cleaning across campus
The guidance also answers questions colleagues might have about what can be expected from the University in the event of a positive test result, including:
- Will we inform you if a colleague/student is being required to self-isolate?
- Will we tell you if someone who has been on campus tests positive?
- Will we undertake any extra cleaning if someone tells us they have symptoms?
- Will we undertake any extra cleaning if someone tests positive?
- What happens if we get a cluster of cases?
