Dr Gerald Habberjam

Colleagues will be sorry to learn of the death last month of Dr Gerald Habberjam, former Senior Lecturer in the Department of Earth Sciences, aged 93.

Gaining his PhD at Leeds, Dr Habberjam joined the Department of Mining in 1950, initially as an assistant lecturer then as lecturer.  In 1955 he then went to work for the National Coal Board, conducting laboratory research on char briquetting with J Bronowski, but returned to the Mining Department in 1963. 

He transferred to the Department of Earth Sciences in 1967 where he remained until his retirement in 1983.
