Meet the new Student Exec 2020/21

LeadLUU has closed and the new Student Exec has been voted in.

Over 6,000 students voted in this year’s LeadLUU, with the final results announced on Friday 6 March 2020. 

Activities Officer 2020/21 – Lucy Murphy

Lucy pledges to:

  • Provide group fundraising events for societies
  • Introduce mental health and welfare skills training for society committees
  • Streamline LUU room booking for societies

Community Officer 2020/21 – Lotti Morton

Lotti pledges to:

  • Improve recycling and reduce waste
  • Work towards more flexible housing contracts for students
  • Create a community foodbank in LUU

Education Officer 2020/21 – Carolina Hall-Rodriguez

Carolina pledges to:

  • Increase support for students on study abroad and placement years
  • Develop equality and diversity training for student leaders
  • Continue addressing the BAME awarding gap

Equality and Diversity Officer 2020/21 – Laila Fletcher

Laila pledges to:

  • Introduce a space for cultural understanding and celebration
  • Enhance BAME Creative Week
  • Spotlight minority groups outside of history months

International Officer – Franks Feng

Franks pledges to:

  • Help international students to access work experience
  • Create an international student ‘buddy scheme’
  • Develop cross-cultural events to facilitate inclusion of international students

Union Affairs Officer 2020/21 – Izzy Walter

Izzy pledges to:

  • Increase LUU’s financial transparency
  • Reduce paper advertising and focus on digital
  • Improve accessibility throughout LUU

Welfare Officer 2020/21 – Sophia Hartley

Sophia pledges to:

  • Make trigger warnings compulsory
  • Develop training to combat sexual abuse
  • Improve consistency in student support from societies and personal tutors

Gryphon Editor 2020/21 – Safia Bugel

Safia pledges to:

  • Improve outreach to BAME, LGBTQ+, international and PG students
  • More local news to help celebrate the Leeds community
  • Help to develop Gryphon contributors’ skills through workshops and talks
