The competitive Fellowship scheme aims to build capacity and create a network of public engagement (PE)/patient and public involvement (PPI) champions across the University.

The scheme, open to colleagues from all Faculties, is looking for people who:

  • are passionate about PE or PPI
  • have novel, innovative and ambitious ideas for PE or PPI
  • want to increase the impact of a project in their group, Institute or School through PE or PPI
  • would like to develop skills to become a champion for engagement at their School/Faculty
  • have worked in outreach with schools and would like to branch out into public engagement with research; and/or
  • are University Academic Fellows.

The scheme offers mentorship and coaching support for up to six Engagement Fellows. This includes a small bursary of up to £400 per project to progress an engagement for research project and deliver impact plans and activities.

The application can be for your own project or ongoing research in your School/Faculty. The idea would then be to produce case studies of PE/PPI to enhance and build the impact of research for the Research Education Framework (REF).

Engagement Fellows will benefit from:

  • professional support from academic champions Professor Sue Pavitt, Delia Muir and Dr Alexa Ruppertsberg
  • peer support from other Engagement Fellows
  • University-wide networks, like pepnet and necnet; and
  • exposure to other engagement projects taking place at Leeds.

See the PE website for further information, or visit this year’s Engagement Fellows’ graduation, from noon to 2pm on Wednesday 25 September in University House.

The deadline for submissions is 5pm on Friday 11 October. The call and application form can be downloaded from the PE website or contact the PE team via email or on 0113 343 1149 (x31149).
