As the fifth instalment of this hugely popular event, Be Curious 2020 represents the ideal opportunity for academics to showcase their world-leading research to the wider public.

A record figure of more than 1,200 visitors flocked to campus on 30 March this year to enjoy an action-packed programme of interactive displays and exhibitions.

And researchers can already sign up for next year’s celebrations on Saturday 28 March.

Dr Alexa Ruppertsberg, Head of Public Engagement with Research at Leeds, said: "We encourage every research team to be involved in Be Curious.

“It’s about designing an activity that captures the interest of the audience – predominantly families – and gets them thinking about your research work and inspiring them to be as passionate about your topic as you are.

“Be as creative as you like, think ‘outside the box’ and develop an activity that will leave the audience with a lasting and positive impression of your research and the University.”

How to apply

Complete the online form by 5pm on Friday 18 October to register an interest in taking part. Applications will be assessed by a small panel of academics and professionals from across the University. Applicants will be informed whether they have been successful in the week commencing Monday 4 November, when further information about the proposed activity will be collected.

An information drop-in session is being staged in Baines Wing Café from 12.30 to 1.30pm on Wednesday 9 October for anyone who would like to discuss their idea before applying. No booking is required.

Dr Ruppertsberg added: “We are always happy to discuss any ideas, no matter how different to what we’ve delivered in the past.

“We welcome a variety of forms of engagement, as long as they can happen on the day. If in doubt – please talk to us. There is no specific theme this year, so no shoehorning in required!

“We look forward to seeing your fantastic research presented at this event.”
