Learning Analytics Strategy and Code of Practice approved
You can now read and review the Learning Analytics Strategy and Code of Practice after they were officially approved.
The documents – outlining the use of Learning Analytics at Leeds – were given the green light at a meeting of the Senate on Wednesday 3 July 2019.
Learning Analytics is “the measurement, collection, analysis, and reporting of data about learners and their contexts, for the purposes of understanding and optimising learning and the environments in which it occurs”. (International Conference on Learning Analytics, 2011)

The new strategy sets out our expectations for the use of Learning Analytics across the institution to enhance the quality of student education and to improve student success. The Code of Practice sets out the responsibilities for staff, students and the University to ensure Learning Analytics is carried out responsibly, transparently, appropriately and effectively, addressing the key legal, ethical and logistical issues that are likely to arise.
All colleagues are asked to review the documentation and ensure any current activities using Learning Analytics data adhere to the Code of Practice.
Work has now started on defining the requirements for a Learning Analytics system, and a task and finish group will be set up to oversee this.
It is anticipated updates on the progress of this project will be provided monthly via email, with the mailing list including all Directors of Student Education, Heads of Services, Pro-Deans for Student Education, Directors of relevant professional services, the LUU executive and Student Champions for Digital Education.
