Student Voice: Enhancing learning and teaching

An update about discussion boards within modules in Minerva.

Further to discussion about the proposed introduction of an in-module discussion board in Minerva modules at the recent Faculty Taught Student Education Committees, it has been agreed that we will not be implementing this across the University at the current time, but the tool remains available for Schools and Faculties to use as part of their mechanisms for seeking student feedback.

Colleagues have expressed support for the principle of students being able to provide in-module feedback in flexible and inclusive ways, but expressed concern about the potential unintended consequences of a discussion board allowing anonymous posts.

Therefore, colleagues in Schools and Faculties will be discussing their current mechanisms for gathering and responding to students’ in-module feedback, and developing consistent practices locally, based on existing good practice.

The University, in partnership with LUU, will continue to consider suitable mechanisms for enabling students to provide in-module feedback in ways which are supported by staff and students, to ensure that all students have the opportunity to provide feedback on their experience at any point in their studies, and engage in a discussion with staff about their learning experience.
