There will be sets on the main stage in the University Precinct from the following acts:

  • Jabbawoki (3-3.45pm)
  • Fruity DJ (3.45-4pm, 4.30-5.10pm and 5.45-6pm)
  • LUU Staff Choir (4-4.30pm)
  • UoL Staff Choir (5.10-5.45pm); and
  • Panjumby (6-7pm)

Jabbawoki are a four-piece Leeds-based band formed in 2012, drawing ideas from all corners of music. They have developed a unique sound encompassing elements of rap, indie and jazz, with influences from the likes of Morcheeba, Kendrick Lamar, Arctic Monkeys and Average White Band.

Panjumby are another Leeds-based band, performing knockout rhythms lead by Dudley Nesbitt, a virtuoso on the steel pan. The Panjumby quintet evoke the musical landscapes of Latin America with a wondrous repertoire of modern jazz, contemporary calypso, soca and classic Latin tunes from Brazil, Trinidad and Jamaica.

Fruity is Leeds University Union's longest running student club night, and the resident DJ will be getting the party started at the Staff Festival by spinning the wheels of steel between our music acts.

Attractions announced

Excitement is building for this year’s instalment of the hugely popular Staff Festival.

A packed programme is close to being finalised, also featuring food and drink, fairground rides, stalls and live music for all ages.

All colleagues, family and friends are invited to join us on campus from 3-7pm on Friday 28 June for what promises to be a hugely entertaining afternoon of activities and attractions.

Following feedback from last year’s event, we’re pleased to announce the dodgems will be making a welcome return alongside the ever-popular Ferris wheel. And among the exciting new attractions for 2019 will be inflatable climbing, a surf simulator, Sumo suits, a gladiator game and a giant version of Hungry Hippos!

Children will be entertained by a miniature railway, ride-on cars, a bouncy castle, face painters and candyfloss, as well as arts and crafts from the Rocket Mobile Studio.

An exciting and varied programme of workshops include cocktail making, DJ skills, free-hand body art, fresh flower button-hole making, paper quilling, the Rocket Mobile Studio for children aged 11+, streamers and beer tasting with Leeds Brewery. Places are being snapped up fast for those workshops requiring advance booking, so be sure to visit the LOGIK Centre to reserve your place as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Full details of all the workshops are available on the Staff Festival webpage.

Mouth-watering food and drink stalls will be selling a tempting range of tasty treats, including a hog roast, desserts, pancakes, pretzels, brownies, olives, fish and chips, curry, ice cream, cocktails, gin, beer and West African cuisine. Tasty vegetarian and vegan options will also be available.

There will also be a host of stalls selling a range of goods, as well as the tombola, which will raise funds for this year’s chosen charity, SNAPS (Special Needs and Parent Support). Santander will be helping to man the stall, with the company matching the sum we raise for this very worthy cause.

The Festival will take place in and around the Refectory, University Precinct and University Road. Disabled access will be available throughout the site.

See the Staff Festival webpage for future updates.
