Help save energy this bank holiday

We are committed to lowering our carbon emissions and the bank holiday shutdown period gives us an opportunity to reduce energy waste.

Bank holiday shutdown 1 May 2019

On Easter Sunday 2019, we managed to consume 1,833 kWh less electricity than on the same period the previous year. That reduction alone is enough energy to power the Parkinson Building for 24 hours on a normal working day!

So, let’s try and do the same again! Before you leave for the four-day bank holiday weekend, you can help by:

  • switching off lights and close all windows
  • ensuring as much lab equipment as possible is turned off before you leave; and
  • checking IT equipment including screens and projectors.

We understand some equipment is required to maintain safety or is being used for research purposes and therefore needs to remain on. However, any equipment not affected by this can be turned off to help us meet our carbon emissions targets and reduce costs to the University.

See the Campus Development website for further information.

Thank you for your support!
