2019-20 Pay update

This year’s pay negotiations have concluded with an offer to increase base pay by 1.8% up to 3.65%, according to pay point. Trade unions are now planning to consult members on the offer.

The Joint Negotiating Committee for Higher Education Staff (JNCHES) met on 30 April in the last of three scheduled negotiating meetings for the 2019-20 pay round. Representing 145 employer institutions, UCEA put forward a final pay offer.

The final offer includes:

  • increases to base pay from 1 August 2019
  • removal of spine point 2 from the 50 point pay scale, meaning that the lowest pay point is point 3
  • salary increases up to 3.65% for colleagues on points 3 - 16 on the pay spine
  • salary increases of 1.8% for colleagues on points 17 and above.

The offer responds to trade unions’ request to address increases towards the lower paid where the cost of living is felt most keenly.

Next steps

Trade unions are planning to consult their members or branches on the offer via their various processes and we understand that all three unions recognised at Leeds will be recommending that members reject the final offer.

We expect union member consultation to conclude by early July.

We will keep you as up to date as possible with the latest news and developments on For Staff.
