Latest senior appointment will further boost student education
Student education at Leeds has been further boosted with another senior appointment.

Professor Jacqueline Stevenson will take up the role of Director at the Lifelong Learning Centre (LLC) on Thursday 1 August.
Her appointment follows the announcement earlier this year that Professor Tina Overton and Dr Christina Edgar have become the new Director of Leeds Institute of Teaching Excellence (LITE) and the Director of Student Opportunity respectively.
Lifelong learning is about creating opportunities so that people of any age are not bound for their lifetimes by the decisions and experiences of their past. It means finding different ways of opening up the University, its knowledge and learning opportunities to wider audiences.
LLC promotes programmes, pathways and support for adult, part-time and foundation level students, especially – although not exclusively – those from disadvantaged and under-represented groups.
Welcoming the appointment, Professor Tom Ward, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Student Education, said: “I am delighted that Professor Stevenson will be taking on this important role.
“The Lifelong Learning Centre makes a vital contribution to expanding opportunities for learners at Leeds, and is highly regarded across the sector. I’d also like to take the opportunity to thank our outgoing Director, Tony Ellis, who has led the Centre with great skill and energy.”
Professor Stevenson is Head of Research in the Sheffield Institute of Education at Sheffield Hallam University.
She is a sociologist of education, with a particular interest in policy and practice relating to equity and diversity in higher education (HE), widening participation, student success, pedagogic diversity and the stratification and marketisation of HE.
Jacqueline has a background in community education and has also held a number of academic and professional services roles in HE. She sits on the Governing Council of the Society for Research into Higher Education and on the steering committee of the national Higher Education Race Action Group.
