Travelling internationally?

If you’re working or planning to travel overseas, please read this important safety update.

A globe

International travel holds a potential risk to personal safety as a result of global events. Additionally, there are still a number of uncertainties around travelling to and from the European Union, ahead of the UK’s exit.

For this reason, and to better secure your wellbeing abroad, the University Executive Group has decided that all international travel, undertaken by staff or postgraduate researchers, should be booked through Key Travel - until further notice.

This will enable the University to locate and support you in the event of any difficulties and provide you with 24/7 support and guidance, wherever you are, along with pre-trip destination briefings.

Colleagues are also encouraged to download the Amadeus Mobile Messenger app which lets travel managers assist you, particularly in disruptive situations, and provides you with in-trip information alerts on every journey. The app is available to download from Google Play and iTunes.

If you’re travelling internationally please can you also complete a risk assessment for your travel, and the activity you are conducting, so that you can carefully consider the risks and determine the necessary control measures to stay safe. If you need help with this, please contact your health and safety manager or email safety@leeds.ac.uk

Travelling outside of Key Travel

If you’re not able to book through Key Travel, where for example your travel is being arranged by a third party or plans are already in place, please share a detailed itinerary, email address and telephone number with your head of school or service so the University can locate and support you if there is an issue.

If you’re travelling overseas after the UK leaves the EU, or during the period of withdrawal, please read the latest guidance on passports and driving licenses.

Where can I find out more?

We have developed a set of FAQs on how to use Key Travel and what to do if your travel is already booked. If you have a question not covered by our FAQs, please speak to your head of service or school.

The Key Travel online tool is designed to be simple and user friendly, but if you would like extra support, you can book onto one of our training sessions via Eventbrite.
