ULITA an Archive of International Textiles, housed in St Wilfreds Chapel on the Western Campus, collects, preserves and documents textiles and related items from many of the textile-producing areas of the world, for the benefit of scholars, researchers and the public.
From August, ULITA, which is currently part of the School of Design, will integrate with the Librarys Special Collections and Galleries. The transfer will enable the collection to reach a wider audience through sustainable learning and engagement programmes.
St Wilfreds Chapel will continue to house ULITAs collection until its transferal to the Library estate. Research visits to use the collections are operating by appointment, as usual. The exhibition area in the chapel is now closed to general visitors.
A textile exhibition curated from ULITAs collection will go on display at The Stanley and Audrey Burton Gallery in September, accompanied by an events programme.
