George Brassay

Colleagues will be sorry to learn of the death, on 7 December 2018, of George Brassay, former Assistant Secretary.

George began his career at the University in the Office of the Registrar in 1978, becoming Assistant Registrar in 1985 and Assistant Secretary in 1999.  He worked in a number of roles over the years  – which included administering research grants and contracts, and supporting the then Dean of Medicine, before moving to the Secretariat, where he earned widespread respect for his diligent and meticulous servicing of the Council and the Court.

George retired from his full-time role in 2010, and retired completely in 2015.  He was made a Life Fellow of the University in 2011.

A staunch supporter of the University, and a truly gentle and caring man, George will be greatly missed by his many friends and colleagues here.

George’s funeral will be held at 1pm on Tuesday 8 January 2019 at Lawnswood Crematorium, Otley Road, Adel, LS16 8AA.

Friends and colleagues are warmly invited to attend the service and to share a funeral tea together afterwards at Headingley Golf Club, Back Church Lane, Leeds LS16 8DW. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made at the service.
