Forty Years ON: Opera North and Leeds

You are invited to attend an illustrated talk by a University lecturer to mark the 40th anniversary of Opera North.

Dr Kara McKechnie, from the School of Performance and Cultural Industries, will chart the history of the Leeds-based opera company to mark the special celebration.

Dr McKechnie is the author of Opera North: Historical and Dramaturgical Perspective on Opera Studies. The illustrated study is a resource for opera scholars and lovers alike. It explores the field of opera studies through history, ethnography and production analysis.

At the talk, Dr McKechnie will reflect on the company’s rich history, offering reminders of key productions, as well as insights into the way the company contributes to city life beyond its performance work.

There will be a Q&A session after the talk where you can share your own memories and experiences of Opera North.

The talk will be held at Leeds Central Library on Wednesday 21 November from 1 to 2.30pm.

Visit the Opera North website for further information and to book your free place.
