David Hemsley

Colleagues will be sorry to learn of the death, on 6 August 2018, of David Hemsley, former University Fire Safety Adviser in the Safety Advisory Service.

After an early career in the Merchant Navy and the Leeds City Fire Brigade, Dave was appointed as Assistant Safety Officer in 1990.  He was responsible for making sure that buildings had fire certificates, for the disposal of waste chemicals, and ensured that the University conformed to health and safety legislation.  He delivered over 1000 Fire Warden training courses for both staff and students on campus and at the Halls of Residence. He retired in 2008.

The funeral service will take place at 1pm on Tuesday 21 August at Hill Top Cemetery, Greenhill Road, Armley, LS12 3QA, on which day the flag on the Parkinson Building will be flown at half-mast in Dave’s memory.
