First Responder training dates announced

Organisational Development and Professional Learning (OD&PL) is offering University staff the opportunity to attend new training sessions.

Sexual Violence Signposting July 2018

The Receiving and Responding to Disclosures of Sexual Violence, Harassment and Abuse – First Responder training has been created to support a University-wide project implementing the recommendations of the Universities UK (UUK) Changing the Culture report, examining violence against women, harassment and hate crime affecting PGRs and students.

The purpose of this one-day interactive workshop is to ensure staff in a broad range of roles feel confident in how to receive and respond to student disclosures of sexual harassment and assault.

The training considers sexual violence in Higher Education, understanding and defining sexual violence, sexual violence and myths, the impact of sexual violence on survivors, barriers to disclosure, active listening skills, dos and don’ts when receiving a disclosure, care pathways, self-care and boundaries.

This is a full-day participative workshop involving a mix of tutor input, individual and group tasks, discussion and opportunity for reflection.

Workshops will run throughout the academic year, with the first one on 12 September 2018.

See the University training catalogue for booking information and dates.
