Restructuring of IT systems to support new Faculty

An IT project has been launched as part of the creation of a new Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures (AHC).

The University Senate approved plans for the new Faculty in 2016, formed from the two ancestral faculties of Arts and Performance, Visual Arts and Communications (PVAC).

A two-year timescale was agreed for the realignment of all structures, systems and processes.

Part of this work involves the creation of new structures in SAP – the corporate system used at the University to provide the infrastructure for all its core business services – and Banner (the University's student information management system). These in turn feed a large number of other systems.

An IT project has been launched to achieve this, including significant work to identify all such systems, categorise them according to impact and urgency and coordinate any development work required.

Changes to the majority of key systems are planned for the first half of November 2018.

A test environment is being made available from late August/early September so staff supporting systems – including those using ODBC links (or similar), which interface with any of Banner, SAP, Lurcis and Active Directory – can test key processes and identify any likely problems so these can be rectified prior to going live.

Further updates will be issued in due course.
