Emeritus Professor Peter Sawyer

Colleagues will be sorry to learn of the death, on 7 July 2018, of Emeritus Professor Peter Sawyer, former Professor of Medieval History.

After graduating from Oxford, Peter held posts at Manchester, Edinburgh and Leeds, before becoming a lecturer at Birmingham in 1957. He returned to Leeds as a Lecturer in 1964, to become successively Reader in 1967 and Professor in 1970, when he succeeded John Le Patourel in the medieval chair. He took early retirement in 1982 after eighteen years’ service to the University.

The funeral service will be held on Friday 20 July 2018 at Stillhetens Chapel, Uppsala, Sweden, on which day the flag on the Parkinson Building will be flown at half-mast in Peter’s memory.
