Celebrating sexual and gender diversity
A worldwide celebration of sexual and gender diversity is being marked by the University.

International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOBiT) on 17 May 2018 is designed to raise awareness and acknowledge that while progress has been made, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people still face prejudice and discrimination across the world today.
This year’s celebrations will focus on ‘Alliances for Solidarity’ and will be an opportunity for everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, to come together and take action.
It will be a chance to strengthen existing relationships and reach out to new groups and people, whether that’s just a conversation you have with a colleague at work or attending an event happening in your local area to show your solidarity.

Staff are also reminded the Equality Policy Unit has published a new guidance document for staff on supporting trans staff and students. The guidance aims to provide more information on the practical aspects of support, such as change of name and gender, toilets and changing facilities, supporting students on field trips, supporting staff and students undergoing transition etc.
It should be particularly valuable to managers, personal tutors and student support colleagues. We encourage colleagues to use this resource and provide feedback on its content and value. Contact Sarah Sutherland in the Equality Policy Unit for further information.
