Success for Employability teams at national awards

The faculties of Engineering, and Mathematics and Physical Sciences were winners at the National Undergraduate Employability (NUE) Awards 2018.

National Undergraduate Employability Awards February 2018

Two of the faculties at the University have been recognised by the NUE, winning awards in two separate categories. The awards strive to be inclusive and represent the widening pool of work experience opportunities available to students in today's competitive market.

'Best University Placement Service' - The Faculty of Engineering Employability Team

This category, which the team were shortlisted for last year, celebrates the invaluable contributions made by a university placement service in the UK to help over one hundred students apply and maximise their work experience opportunities. The Engineering Employability Team impressed with the sheer amount of activities offered to promote placements to students. Their strong focus on early-engagement saw hundreds of first-years across 30 degree programmes take part in summer boot camps for students who were graduating without work experience. Their service has seen an incredible 300% increase in placed students since 2014.

'Most Improved Commitment to Employability' - The Faculty of Mathematics and Physical Sciences

This category celebrates the increased commitment provided by a university department, placement or careers service in helping students apply and maximise their work experience opportunities. The Mathematics and Physical Sciences Employability Team impressed the judges with what they have managed to achieve. They devised a faculty-wide ‘Employability Lecture Programme’ and orchestrated summer boot camps for students graduating without work experience. Since starting the service from 2016, their commitment to raising awareness of employability within traditionally non-vocational subjects has been outstanding.
